Learning Objectives:

After completing this workshop in its entirety, you will be able to:

  • Illustrate the difference between traditional Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) by identifying their distinct theoretical assumptions about doubt, threat, and obsessional reasoning in OCD.
  • Discuss the role of inferential confusion and maladaptive reasoning processes in the development and maintenance of OCD symptoms.
  • Apply ERP, ACT, and I-CBT principles in a way that targets both behavioral avoidance and obsession-driven doubt while maintaining treatment fidelity.
  • Assess client readiness and clinical indicators for when to emphasize ERP, ACT, or I-CBT across different OCD subtypes.
  • Demonstrate activities clinicians can use that implement principles from ERP, ACT, and I-CBT to address obsessional doubt and face these doubts with resilience

Workshop Description:

What if your clients’ OCD wasn’t driven by fear alone—but by how they arrive at doubt in the first place? This workshop is designed for clinicians who want to deepen their effectiveness with OCD by skillfully integrating Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT). Participants will learn how to help clients move from paralyzing doubt and endless mental checking into values-driven action—without relying solely on habituation or reassurance reduction. Ideal for clinicians working with treatment-resistant OCD, mental compulsions, reassurance seeking, and high-doubt presentations, this workshop bridges theory and practice so you can immediately apply what you learn.
