Workshop Description:

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is widely recognized as a gold-standard treatment for OCD and anxiety-related disorders. Yet in-vivo exposures—by their very nature—can raise complex ethical questions for clinicians. How do we ensure informed consent when exposures evoke significant distress? Where is the line between therapeutic challenge and potential harm? How do we navigate boundary considerations, liability risks, public settings, and client safety while still delivering effective, evidence-based care? This continuing education workshop is designed to help clinicians thoughtfully and confidently navigate these questions. This training will explore how to implement in-vivo exposures with clinical integrity, cultural humility, and risk-awareness—without compromising treatment efficacy.

Course Outline:

  • Importance of exposure work outside of session (30 Minutes)
    • Informed consent
    • Challenge vs. potential harm
  • Liability and Responsibility (30 minutes)
    • Client safety
    • Boundaries
    • Risk awareness
