Workshop Description:
Level 1 introduces clinicians to the foundations of clinical hypnotherapy through the lens of memory reconsolidation. Hypnotherapy, when used in a specific therapeutic format, may create conditions that support new learning and the updating of old emotional patterns. Our memories and past learning influence the beliefs, expectations, emotional responses, and behaviors we carry into the present. When those patterns are no longer helpful, new learning can help clients develop different ways of understanding and responding to their experiences.
Hypnotherapy provides a unique opportunity to work with these patterns while clients are in a focused and receptive state. This approach combines hypnotherapy with principles of memory reconsolidation and emphasizes empowering clients to access their own insights, resources, and solutions for changing old beliefs, trauma-related schemas, and patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Rather than simply telling clients what to think or believe, this approach creates an experiential process through which clients can discover new possibilities, develop more adaptive ways of responding, and strengthen their capacity for meaningful change.
This workshop provides clinicians with a practical introduction to this approach and lays the foundation for the more advanced techniques taught in the full Clinical Hypnotherapy Certification Program. Participants will learn about hypnosis, memory reconsolidation, hypnotic induction, therapeutic suggestion, resource development, and ways hypnotherapy can be incorporated into clinical practice. The workshop is both didactic and experiential, giving participants opportunities to learn the concepts, experience aspects of hypnosis themselves, and begin developing skills they can apply with appropriate clients in their own clinical work.
