  • Analyze how executive functioning, sensory processing, and emotional regulation differences contribute to behavioral challenges in neurodivergent children and inform parent coaching interventions.
  • Apply neurodiversity-affirming parent coaching strategies that strengthen co-regulation, reduce family stress, and promote collaborative problem-solving across home and community settings.

Workshop Description:

Have you ever worked with parents who felt overwhelmed by a child's meltdowns, emotional intensity, or seemingly unpredictable behavior? Neurodivergent children often communicate stress through behavior that is misunderstood as defiance, manipulation, or poor motivation. Without an understanding of executive functioning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and nervous system differences, clinicians may unintentionally reinforce parent frustration rather than promote effective intervention.

This intermediate workshop provides clinicians with a practical, neurodiversity-affirming framework for coaching parents of children with ADHD, autism, and related neurodevelopmental presentations. Participants will learn how to help parents reframe challenging behaviors through a developmental and neurobiological lens, strengthen co-regulation, reduce family stress cycles, and implement collaborative, strengths-based strategies that improve emotional regulation and family functioning. Through case examples and immediately applicable clinical tools, attendees will leave prepared to guide parents toward more effective, compassionate responses that help neurodivergent children thrive.

Workshop Agenda:

I. Understanding Behavior Through a Neurodiversity-Affirming Lens — 25 Minutes

  • Common neurodevelopmental characteristics of ADHD, autism, and related presentations
  • Executive functioning, sensory processing, and emotional regulation as drivers of behavior
  • Reframing behavior as communication rather than intentional noncompliance
  • Helping parents shift from blame to understanding
  • Case example illustrating clinical conceptualization

II. Coaching Parents to Promote Regulation and Family Success — 35 Minutes

  • Principles of effective parent coaching
  • Co-regulation before correction
  • Collaborative problem-solving strategies for challenging moments
  • Environmental and sensory-informed supports that reduce stress
  • Practical interventions clinicians can immediately integrate into treatment planning

Presented by: Brandon Browne, LPC

Brandon Browne, MA, LPC, is the Owner and Clinical Director of Mind & Body Christian Health Group in Kennesaw, Georgia. A Licensed Professional Counselor since 2009 and a Certified PEERS® for Adolescents Provider, Brandon specializes in ADHD, autism spectrum presentations, trauma, marriage and relational dynamics, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy through an integrative approach that addresses both mental and physical health. He is an experienced workshop presenter and podcast guest known for translating complex clinical concepts into practical strategies that clinicians can immediately implement. Brandon is the co-author of The Whole Self ADHD Guide: Cultivating Focus, Connection, and Joy (with Brittany Browne) and the author of Mind & Body: Christian Health Group Therapy Guide.
Brandon's qualifications are grounded in more than 15 years of clinical practice, specialized training in neurodevelopmental conditions, leadership of a multidisciplinary behavioral health practice, publication of clinical resources, and extensive experience presenting continuing education workshops for mental health professionals. His work focuses on translating evidence-informed concepts into clinically relevant interventions that improve assessment, case conceptualization, parent coaching, and treatment planning.
For this workshop, Brandon draws upon his extensive experience supporting neurodivergent children and their families to help clinicians coach parents through behavioral challenges using a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based framework that promotes emotional regulation, collaboration, and healthy family functioning.

Attendance Policy: 100% attendance and completion of a course evaluation is required at any CE program in order to receive credit for that CE program. No partial credit is given.
