Educational Objectives:

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Define & describe the 12 primary subtypes of OCD
  • Discuss exposure-based skills beneficial in equipping clients to make lasting change
  • Describe in-session exposures for the various subtypes
  • Determine out-of-session exposures for the various subtypes
  • Review activities useful for client growth in various OCD subtypes
  • Describe the comprehensive treatment planning from the start of therapy through termination

Workshop Description:

Let’s face it, OCD may sometimes feel like a beast to work with: Am I doing the right exposure? Is this client even getting anywhere? Am I missing something? These are just few of the questions we might ask ourselves when working with clients who have OCD. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the Gold Standard treatment when working with OCD; however, we know OCD is not a one-size-fits-all disorder.

This workshop is designed to help clinicians think outside the box when developing exposures for clients. In this workshop, participants will learn exposure-friendly skills to teach clients as well as activities to do in session to help your most difficult OCD clients thrive in resilience. Presenters will also describe how to take clients within the various subtypes from the beginning to the end of their therapeutic journey.

Specific OCD themes to be covered include:

  • Order and symmetry
  • Magical thinking
  • Existential
  • Pedophilia
  • Perinatal
  • Pure O
  • Scrupulosity
  • Contamination
  • Sexual orientation
  • Just right
  • Harm
  • Relationship
